Introduction

For over 20 years, KeepTool has been trusted by application developers, DBAs, and support teams thanks to its intuitive GUI, fast onboarding, and rich feature set. With each release, we aim to evolve in meaningful ways.

With the launch of Windows 11 and Oracle 21c, it felt like the right moment to unveil a major new version. KeepTool 15 introduces enhancements in compatibility, productivity, and security — while maintaining broad backward compatibility.

What’s New in KeepTool 15

✅ Expanded Platform Support

  • Fully compatible with Microsoft Windows 11, while still supporting older platforms

  • Adds support for Oracle 21c, making sure you stay current with Oracle’s roadmap

  • Maintains backward compatibility all the way down to Oracle 7.3

📚 Enhanced XML DB & External Data Exchange

We’ve deepened integration with Oracle’s XML DB capabilities to facilitate data exchange workflows:

  • Generate XML schema definitions directly from PL/SQL types.

  • Accelerate and improve XML data handling in Hora, Reverse DB, and DB Compare modules.

This helps when integrating with external systems or building XML-based interfaces.

✨ Object Flagging & Visual Markers

You now have flexible visual tools to mark objects of interest — stars, colored bullets, icons — wherever you like. This makes it easier to:

  • Keep track of important or volatile objects

  • Avoid mistakes with dynamic or temporary objects

  • Speed up navigation and focus on what’s important

🔐 Encryption & Checksumming Over Direct TCP/IP

One standout addition: KeepTool 15 supports data encryption and checksumming even when using direct TCP/IP connections (bypassing the Oracle client).

Because direct-mode connections do not rely on sqlnet.ora, you can now configure encryption and checksumming within KeepTool itself in the direct-connection settings.

This ensures that even “lightweight” connections can remain secure.

📊 Session Monitoring for Connection Security

To help maintain oversight, KeepTool adds visibility around security features:

  • In the Sessions view, each session now includes indicators or icons showing whether encryption or checksum is active

  • You can quickly scan which connections are protected vs. which are not

This helps with securing your environment and complying with internal security policies.

Why These Enhancements Matter

  • Security for all modes — even direct TCP/IP sessions can now be secured

  • Stronger data interoperability — improved XML features simplify integration with external systems

  • Better user experience — visual cues and object flags reduce errors and speed work

  • Future-proofing — support for Windows 11 and Oracle 21c ensures longevity
