Grouping Database Connections by Host
KeepTool now offers a convenient way to organize your database connections by hostname and service name.
This enhancement makes it much easier to manage connections in complex environments where multiple databases reside on the same server.
In the Connection Dialog, each connection you’ve used recently appears in a list.
You can sort them by History, Database (TNS alias or host:port/service), User, or Category — and now also by Hostname.

The new By Hostname tab automatically groups all database connections by the server hostname.
Within each host group, connections are further organized by service name.
This works for both Oracle SQL*Net and direct TCP/IP connections.
If a hostname is not immediately available (for example, when using a TNS alias), KeepTool retrieves it automatically after you connect. Over time, your connection list becomes more complete and neatly organized.
Why Grouping by Host Is Helpful
-
Simplified navigation – Easily locate all connections hosted on the same physical or virtual machine.
-
Unified overview – See both TNS and direct TCP/IP connections in one place.
-
Better clarity – Quickly distinguish development, test, and production servers by host grouping.
-
Incremental learning – Each new connection automatically enriches your connection overview.
This feature is especially useful for DBAs and developers who frequently connect to multiple Oracle databases across environments or data centers.
How to Use It
Open your Connection Dialog and switch to the By Hostname tab.
You’ll see your connections organized by server name and database service.
As you continue connecting to new databases, additional host groups appear automatically.
