Unlock More Flexibility with KeepTool

Introduction

In today’s dynamic Oracle development environments, flexibility and efficiency are key. With a focus on streamlining workflows, KeepTool introduces enhancements that empower developers and DBAs alike. As a result, you can get more done in less time — whether you’re coding, editing PL/SQL, or managing licenses.

More Remote Freedom with Network License Borrowing

One of the most convenient upgrades is the ability to borrow your network license and work offline. For instance, you can borrow a license for up to 30 days, which means you’re no longer tied to your local network while using KeepTool.
From the Start Center, simply open the License Manager via Help → License Management → Borrow / Return License, or use the Windows Start Menu option.
After borrowing, you can return it early — or wait until the expiration date when the license returns automatically.
This improvement brings tangible flexibility for remote work, travel, or development off-site.

Intuitive SQL and PL/SQL Editing Enhancements

Beyond licensing, KeepTool also refines the code editing experience. For example, the SQL Scratchpad now remembers both query parameters and lexical macros per connection string.
This means that when you return to a saved SQL statement, KeepTool suggests your previously used values — saving time and eliminating repetitive entry.
In the PL/SQL editor, errors are now more visible: a red bullet appears to the left of each line where the compiler detected a problem, allowing you to locate issues faster.

Consistent SQL Generation Across Contexts

Another notable enhancement is the standardized behavior of SQL generation. Whether you’re generating INSERT/DML from the Tables overview, the editor window, or a drag-and-drop action, the experience is now uniform.
Moreover, the INSERT statement generator now features a “Default Values” checkbox. When checked, it uses default or null values for columns with defaults and null-ability, making the output cleaner and more accurate.
By unchecking it, you still get bind variables for all columns — offering you complete control depending on your use case.
This consistency means you spend less time answering “Why doesn’t this SQL look the same here?” and more time focusing on meaningful work.

Why These Improvements Matter

These enhancements might seem incremental individually, but together they make a significant difference:

  • Greater mobility: Borrow network licenses and work from anywhere without interruption.

  • Enhanced coding efficiency: Saved parameter values and improved error visibility help you code faster.

  • Uniform behavior: Consistent SQL generation avoids surprises and mistakes across sessions and modules.

In short, KeepTool’s updates focus on real-world productivity rather than simply new features.

Try It for Yourself
